Liliana Malfavon, also known as Hotdog, is a Mexican-American visual artist based in Denver, Colorado. Her works mainly feature self-portraits dealing with themes of identity, mental health, and culture. In Liliana's words, "My work is representative of the thoughts I cannot put into words or maybe even the things I’ve been afraid to say out loud."
Stylistically, Liliana feels inspired by fragments taken from the world around her. Her childlike use of crayons, construction paper, and cartoonish design is largely inspired by her background as an early childhood educator. In contrast, her dramatic black-and-white pieces stem from her internal world as she comes to terms with the real toll and consequence of past traumas. Above all else, Liliana is Inspired by the visceral, the absurd, and the excess.
